In the period of the World War 2 one of the key opposition borders of the Soviet army and German troops was disposed in the south-west part of the Rostov region on the Mius river. The German army succeeded in building of an important defensive construction for their foreground front line troops along the Mius river banks: there were more than 800 key force bases and about 2540 km of trenches. This defensive line was planned to become a new state border of Germany in 1943.
