Taganrog City was founded in 1698 on a deserted cape by the decree of Peter the Great. New orders were given by the Tsar to plant trees for arrangement of green spaces in the steppe. The first oak appeared at the beginning of the 18th century in the town and in the surroundings, in the very city center – a pharmaceutical garden. The administration tried to decorate the parks and public gardens and change them into oasis in a steppe within the whole history of the town.

During the excursion tourists will walk along the avenues of the Taganrog Park – one of the oldest in the south of Russia. This part has got the name “The best park of culture and rest of the country”, and not once. The park has calm avenues with green lawns, parade carpeting flowerbeds, small cosy cafes under the shade of huge oaks and poplars living peacefully with noisy amusement parts, zoo, dance veranda and open-air stage. A walk along the historical boulevard gives the opportunity not only to relax under green trees but to enjoy the miraculous view over the Taganrog Bay panorama. A new embankment called Pushkinskaya with a big poplar grove is a favourite rest place for the citizens as well as for numerous tourists and vacationers.
