That is why, thousands of tourist come here, to the heart of the Don, to get acquainted with unique monuments of history and architecture of the 18th-19th centuries, Cossacks’ everydaylife, traditions and customs. 5 days, 5 excursions, 5 museums.
| Day 1 |
Meeting. Breakfast. A bus excursion through Rostov (3 hours). Rostov-on-Don is a city, that during its 250 year existence has turned from a small customs on the Don river bank into the administrative center of the Southern Federal Region with magnificent old mansions and parks, theatres, and museums. Acquaintance with the architectural styles: the classicism, the baroque, the gothic, the modern, the constructivism. Visit to the Cathedral of Saint Virgin Birth. Aquaintance with the architecture of Nahkichevan-on-Don (nowadays it is one of the districts of Rostov). |
| Day 2 |
Breakfast. Bus and pedestrian excursion through Starocherkassk stanitsa (30 km away from Rostov). One called it with love “The Don Venice”. It is a vivid history of the Don Cossacks. Here you can find typical Cossacks’ houses – kurens, the Ataman’s estate, the main square Maidan, trade houses, the Cathedral of Resurrection (the 18th century), the pearl of the Don with the 5- tiered wooden iconostasis. The folklore programme «The Acceptance to the Cossacks». Return to Rostov. Free time. |
| Day 3 |
Bus excursion to Novocherkassk (35 km away from Rostov). Novocherkassk is an ex-capital of Don Cossacks. There you can see the Ataman’s Palace, the Archway of Triumph, the buildings of the officers’ assembly and military office, mansions of nobility, visit the Cossack’s Army Cathedral of Resurrection (New Byzantine style, the second half of the 19th century). Return to Rostov. |
| Day 4 |
Breakfast. A bus excursion to Taganrog (67 km away from Rostov). Taganrog is a quiet, cozy town on the shore of the Taganrog Bay (the Azov Sea). It was founded by the emperor Peter the Great and famous all over the world as the motherland of the writer Anton Chekhov. Besides this town connects to lives of the great composer Peter Chaikovsky, the writers Konstantin Paustovsky, and the actress Faina Ranevskaya. Acquaintance with architectural monuments of the town. Visit to the “Townplanning and Everyday Life of Taganrog” Museum, where you get known the history of the fortress building at the Tagany Rog Point by Peter the Great. Return to Rostov. |
| Day 5 |
Breakfast. Excursion to Azov, the town, which first was the trade port, accepting vessels from all over the world, later it became a formidable Turkish fortress, that was captured by Peter the Great then. The town is more than 900 years. Tana-Azak-Azov is the name the town is known under in the history of Russia and the world. Here was the beginning if the Greta Silk Way to China. The «Powder Magazine» Museum is the monument of military engineering art (the 17th-18th centuries). You can view the «Attack of the Azov Turkish fortress by Peter the Great troops in 1967» diorama . Return to Rostov. |
